The friendship between Christleton and Marzocca , a seaside village 3 miles south of Senigallia (Le Marche) on the Adriatic coast of Italy, grew out of the twinning between Chester and Senigallia. In May 2006 a celebratory dinner was held at the Ring O' Bells to commemorate the beginning of a friendship agreement open to all.
In April 2009, a visiting group from Christleton witnessed the unveiling of an official twinning sign in Marzocca with local press present. Now we look forward to a group from Marzocca attending Christleton Fete 26th June 2010 to give a sense of authenticity to this year's theme of "Italy". They are planning to bring a group of traditional Marche musicians with them and lovely Italian food and wine.
The Marche Region of Italy is known as "Italy in One Region". Around Marzocca you have beautiful hilltop fortified towns, rolling hills, olive groves, vineyards, the Monte Conero National Park, as well as the 17 kilometres of 'Velvet Beach'. Although Marzocca itself has fewer historic buildings than Senigallia, the Marzoccans won't let you forget that Napoleon often stopped by.
