Church Commemoration. Centenary of the start of WWI

On the 4th August 2014 at St James Church we were able to help Commemorate the Anniversary of the start of WWI by contributing a booklet which lists the Fallen Heroes we had researched by that date. After a moving ceremony in the church where candles were lit for the fallen, the congregation proceeded to the War Memorial where after prayers a floral wreath of fresh flowers was placed on the memorial on behalf of the church and project team

A major inspiration for the project came from the paintings of the late Alan Davies an art teacher at Christleton High School who first took students on Battlefield Tours in Belgium and France. Alan always intended to write a book about the fallen from Christleton and to illustrate the story with his own paintings. Sadly he died before the work was completed. We have now located four of these pictures and intend to honour his memory by including them in our book.
