The 2024 Village Show was held in the Parish Hall on Saturday 13th July 2024. The theme this year was The Olympics-Paris 2024 and the show was opened by David Cummings BEM. He spoke about the long history of the show dating back to at least 1875, and of the founder Rev. Canon Lionel Garnett, who was determined to improve the quality of life in the village, and organised events to provide a new church and school. The Village Fete raised money for the new Church, and the Village Show a new Boys School. The Rector was supported in all his fund raising activities by Lucy Ann Ince from Christleton Hall, and many local worthies, including The Duke of Westminster, the Mayor of Chester and local businessmen & trades people.
The Parish Hall was full of colour with a great variety of entries in the 80 classes, in Flowers, Floral Art, Art, Textile Crafts, other handmade Crafts, Photographs, Produce, Fruit & Vegetables. The flowers section was particularly memorable considering the dreadful wet weather of late, and the children’s exhibits were better than ever, with the event, again being supported by the Play Group and Primary School. The Primary School also contributed a memorable set of straw figures depicting Olympic events, which had helped publicise the Show on the Village Green for several weeks. The Show on the day was well supported by the village, with a steady stream of visitors throughout the afternoon, who also enjoyed the refreshments in the annexe provided by Janet Brown and her team.
The prize giving and raffle draw was held at 4.00pm, with many new participants winning prizes. A full list is attached below. Congratulations to Lara Jones the Chair and her team for organising such a successful show.
