One of the best recorded Village Fetes was the celebration in 2008 when Chairman Martin Thompson organised the Fete with a Chinese Theme, which is illustrated below. In my report in the Parish Magazine of August 2008 I wrote the following;
Congratulations to Martin Thompson and his team for a superb Christleton fete at the Primary School last Month. The general consensus was that it was one of the best fetes for many years, and enjoyed by everyone who took part, or was watching from the sidelines. The spirit of the Village of Christleton depends on the efforts of organisations like the Fete Committee, the Village Show, the Churches, the Voluntary Organisations, The Pit Group etc, bringing people together. If you enjoyed the Fete why not volunteer to help next year. I’m sure the Fete Committee would be delighted to hear from you.
In July 2008 The Rector Rev. Canon K Peter Lee wrote
Talented Christleton *
Dear Friends
I never cease to be amazed, as I visit the Village Show each year, by how talented people are! To walk around the Parish Hall, and see all the various exhibits in so many different “categories” is a feast to the senses. As we celebrate “Talented Christleton” perhaps that can help us to take to heart the message of the parable of the Talents. The whole principle of Christian Stewardship is based on the understanding, brought out by this parable, that we do not “own” or “possess” anything in our own right. All we are and have, and the whole world, is God’s creation, which he entrusts to our care; our stewardship. Certainly, as we look around Christleton, we are blest with many talented people from many walks of life, to enrich our community. People contribute their talents in so many areas of community life.

This Community Spirit was evident again in June this year 2022 on the Church Lawn when we celebrated the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and later at the 2022 Village Fete. The disruption of Village activities due to covid-19 was immense, and it is only now that we are beginning to come out of it. The successful 2022 Fete organised by Dawn Sturgess and her team was another new beginning, and let’s hope that by 2023, the Village Show will be held again, so that the talents of its inhabitants can be displayed with pride.
