Christleton Fete 2010 with an Italian Theme

CHRISTLETON FETE 2010
Theme ITALY!

The theme for the Christleton Fete this summer will be ITALY, and all things Italian, or even Roman. The Fete will be at the usual place and the usual Date – the last Saturday in June - 26 June. The Parade starts at the village centre at 1.00pm and from there wends its way to the Christleton Primary School.

The theme this year has been chosen to highlight Christleton’s friendship agreement (‘twinning’) with Marzocca in Italy. For the last few years there has been a growing two way traffic between Christleton and Marzocca, and this year a group of musicians and food lovers will be coming to join us at the Fete. If you have a taste for Italian wines, hams, cheeses, olives and generally things Italian, then this is the Fete for you.

As part of the theme, we have arranged for the award-winning Chester Roman Army to put in an appearance, hopefully with a cohort of soldiers marching into Christleton and putting on a display for us. Sally Garozzo, the renowned Sicilian singer and daughter of Guiseppe Garrozo a regular and very successful competitor in the Motogiro d'Italia competition will sing and the Marzoccan musicians will entertain. Just to add to the action, we have a Samba Band to head the parade, and don’t miss out on our own Irish Dancers, who will round off proceedings. There should be something in there for everyone, not to mention the many stalls and games, beer tent, bouncy castle, donkeys, and much, much more.

Of course, with an Italian theme, you must come to the party in fancy dress! Perhaps the Mafiosi? Maybe a Gondolier? A masked Venetian lady? Harlequin clown? Or of course as a Roman. If it’s a hot sunny day some may prefer to be Michaelangelo’s David, or even Venus de Milo (with arms). But whatever your taste, do dress up as something, and bring a dash of colour or spectacle to the Show! All the fancy dress costumes will be judged, both children and adults, and prizes given for the most beautiful, outrageous, and so on.

So let’s see you on the day, at our Christleton Festa Italiana!

On Saturday 3rd July, 2010 Salvatore an Italian cyclist who was born in our twin town of Mazzocca arrived in Christleton. His arrival was rather special as he had cycled all the way from Sengallia. All of 2400 kilometres. Greeted by a number of residents in Christleton he was able to declare his belief that "more bikes mean cleaner air".
He was hoping to meet the Deputy Mayor of Chester on Monday 5th July on Chester Town Hall steps.

Well done Salvatore. Great to see you. How are you getting home?

Salvatore's previous long cycling trip was from Senegallia to Nordkapp the most northerly part of Norway.

CHRISTLETON
Twinned with MARZOCCA

The friendship between Christleton and Marzocca , a seaside village 3 miles south of Senigallia (Le Marche) on the Adriatic coast of Italy, grew out of the twinning between Chester and Senigallia. In May 2006 a celebratory dinner was held at the Ring O' Bells to commemorate the beginning of a friendship agreement open to all.

In April 2009, a visiting group from Christleton witnessed the unveiling of an official twinning sign in Marzocca with local press present. Now we look forward to a group from Marzocca attending Christleton Fete 26th June 2010 to give a sense of authenticity to this year's theme of "Italy". They are planning to bring a group of traditional Marche musicians with them and lovely Italian food and wine.

The Marche Region of Italy is known as "Italy in One Region". Around Marzocca you have beautiful hilltop fortified towns, rolling hills, olive groves, vineyards, the Monte Conero National Park, as well as the 17 kilometres of 'Velvet Beach'.  Although Marzocca itself has fewer historic buildings than Senigallia, the Marzoccans won't let you forget that Napoleon often stopped by. If you would like to find out more about Senigallia click here . If you would like to find out more about Marzocca, you'll just have to go there and see for yourselves! Ryan Air flies Liverpool to Rimini.
