The 2011 Christleton Village Show was held in the Parish Hall on Saturday 9th July. The show was opened by Mrs. Margaret Croston to celebrate her contribution and commitment to voluntary service for almost 50 years. She was one of the Parish Councillors who in 1992 was responsible for re-instituting the Village Show as we know it today but her influence on the village and the City of Chester since 1964 has been immense.
Parish Councillor for 30 years and being the first Lady Chairman, Governor of the Primary School for 25 years, Secretary to St. James' PCC for 21 years, Secretary of the John Sellers Charity - ongoing, Committee Member and Chairman of Guide Dogs for the Blind for 27 years, Chester Cathedral Guide, Speakers Secretary for Chester Society of Natural Science, literature and Art, Speakers Secretary for Chester Ladies Luncheon Club, Member of Chester Ladies Circle and Chairman of of Chester Tangent.
Margaret is the local correspondent for the Chester Chronicle and has accumulated one of the finest resources of printed material about the village. These albums contain stories and pictures about the village life that forms a unique and fascinating account of Christleton village over 40 years. In addition to these contributions in a voluntary role Margaret has been Secretary to the Treasurer of Cheshire County Council, Secretary to the Dean of Law at Manchester University and Secretary to Croston Engineering, the successful Milling Fabrication business set up with her husband Alf.
